Reaching Tanah Lot Temple is straightforward, thanks to its accessible location in Beraban Village, Tabanan Regency. It’s about 20 km from Kuta and 30 km from Ngurah Rai International Airport. From popular areas like Seminyak or Canggu, it’s a 20–40-minute drive, while Ubud is about 1 hour away.

When is the best time to visit Tanah Lot Temple

To make the most of your visit to Tanah Lot Temple, go during low tide when it’s possible to walk to the temple by land. Looking at the tide chart and yes it varies depending on the season, but the first low tide should be around 11 AM , followed by a high tide around 4 PM, and the final low tide in the evening after 9PM.

Many travelers choose the late afternoon for the combination of low tide access and stunning sunset views and i can definately recommend this as well. Or in the morning before the crowd and afternoon sun.

Best photo spots include the cliff terrace for panoramic views of the Tanah Lot Temple against the ocean and the black sand beach for close-up shots during low tide.

Clear Skies: Ofcourse during the day with clear skies give an amazing view and good shots.

Best Times for Photography: Sunset for vibrant colors (6:15–6:45 PM) or early morning for softer light and fewer crowds.

Photography Tips:

• Arrive early to secure a good spot, especially at sunset when the crowds gather.
• Use the high area between Tanah Lot Temple and Pura Batu Bolong for unique angles and a clear shot. Make sure you have a camera that can zoom to be able to do this.
• Check tide schedules for low-tide access to the temple’s base for more dramatic shots
• Cultural Respect: Have respect during ceremonies, keep your distance while shooting.
• Bring a good quality camera! Mine is not here in Bali at the moment, so have to do it with my Iphone, urghhh. But I will come back again and make some more professional photo’s.

I recommend checking tide schedules, low tide lets you cross a narrow path to the temple’s base, where you can see the Holy Water Cave and feel the spiritual vibe up close. Be mindful of wet rocks and follow local guides’ directions for safety.

For crowd control, stick to the upper viewing areas if you prefer space, or visit on weekdays to avoid weekend rushes. Pair your visit with a cold Bintang from a nearby warung on the upper terraces to soak in the atmosphere. Tanah Lot Temple at sunset is a must-see, blending nature and culture perfectly.

Yes, there are parking areas, restrooms, restaurants, and souvenir shops (a lot of them) along the path to the temple. Just before the main temple in the water, there is a path to the left that goes to the upper part of the complex. Here are a lot of restaurants to have a drink or some lunch – diner.
