The easiest ways of transport to the waterfall:
Rent a scooter – We go everywhere in Bali with out scooter and love the flexibility and freedom it brings. We only choose Bikago as they are very reliable and have the best service, plus you will ride (almost) new scooters.
Taxi or Ride-Share: Book a taxi or use Grab/Gojek. This is not the easiest way of transport, as it takes time when you are finished to get transport, and not all are coming all the way to the waterfall. Best to hire a scooter or even better a private driver for the day.

Private Driver: Hire a private driver and make the most of your day. This is ideal if you want a guided trip, and enjoy other activities in and around Ubud on the same day. All without wait and very affordable compare to other countries.

Kanto Lampo waterfall entrance fee
The entrance fee for Kanto Lampo waterfall is 25,000 IDR. This is $1.50. This gives you access to the waterfall and its surrounding area. Parking is free from my understanding as i didn’t have to pay anything. There is no need to book ahead of time, you can just come up and walk to the entrance without any issues or wait.

Kanto Lampo waterfall opening hours
The normal time is between 6:30am and 6pm, Monday to Sunday. Sometimes they stop a bit earlier when there are no people in the area or it gets dark earlier.
When to visit the Waterfall
Ideally you come before 9 am. If you are in bad luck the waterfall is rented out, more on that later. But the sooner the better, as it gets crowded during the day, especially during holidays and peak season. Tourists love this instagram worthy waterfall and are willing to wait a long time to get that perfect shot or video.
When the afternoon comes to an end, the light gets a bit dim and it will get more and more difficult to get that perfect shot. If you don’t mind this, i can definitely recommend coming late in the afternoon, as its very peaceful during this time with less crowds and a beautiful ambiance.

Bali’s Low & High Seasons
Bali’s low season typically runs from November to March, aligning with the wet season. Except for the xmas holidays. The best months for fewer crowds are often January to March and September to early November.
Bali’s peak season is normally from April to October (dry season) with the peak during the summer holidays July and August. My last brief 1 month visit in Bali was in early July, and i had so much fun with the throng of people at this waterfall. I will get back in late September for a longer period and will surely come back for some more personal time with the waterfall.

Pay to Have Kanto Lampo to Yourself!
Yes, its possible to have the waterfall completely for yourself. Together with your friends or relatives, with up to 10 people you have the chance to reserve the waterfall for 1 to 3 hours.
This is also the best time for photo’s and video’s together with the waterfall, so definitely something to consider when you don’t mind paying this.

The Hike to the Waterfall
The hike to Kanto Lampo Waterfall is a short and manageable trek, taking about 5-10 minutes from the parking area in Beng Village, Gianyar Regency. It involves descending a series of stairs – initially cement with Hindu mythology carvings, then natural rock steps – followed by a brief walk along a narrow riverbank to reach the falls.

Based on my visit the path can be slippery, especially after rain, so I recommend gripping the bamboo handrail and wearing water-friendly shoes. The trail is easy, suitable for all ages, and surrounded by beautiful greenery, though it gets trickier with high water levels during the wet season. if your lucky you don’t see a large crowd of people on the stairs to the waterfall and you can enjoy some alone time and get that perfect shot without having to wait for an hour.
What can you Expect at Kanto Lampo Waterfall
At Kanto Lampo Waterfall, you can expect a stunning natural spectacle with its unique tiered rock formations cascading into a shallow pool, surrounded by greenery. The waterfall, fed by the subak irrigation and natural springs, offers a refreshing spot for shallow bathing or standing under the gentle flow, though it’s not deep enough for swimming.
The area is a photographer’s paradise, with smooth rocks perfect for Instagram shots, and the pure environment makes it ideal for relaxation or a light picnic. Expect a decent crowd, especially mid-morning and even more so during the afternoon, so arriving early helps. Watch for slippery rocks and respect the natural setting for a memorable experience.

There are changing rooms before the descend for man and woman separately. There are also toilets and several warungs to get a drink or a local bite. After i was done, i got a cold coconut and an ice cream to cool off a bit and relive this amazing experience.
You also have the chance to hire a photographer at the waterfall for a small fee. These guys make the best shots and the funniest moves to get these shots. I had such a laugh watching them, so please take your time to enjoy them also and if you want hire them for yourself as they know exactly how to take the ideal positions for those epic shots.
Additional Features to Explore at Kanto Lampo Waterfall
At Kanto Lampo Waterfall, beyond the stunning tiered rock formations and refreshing pool spot to relax and bathe, there are a few additional features to enjoy that enhance the experience. The small cave near the waterfall, often mentioned by locals, is a narrow opening formed naturally or possibly linked to a past ritual, though its exact origin remains a bit of a mystery.

The small shrine at the base of the falls is another highlight, reflecting Balinese Hindu reverence for water as a symbol of purity. Locals use it for rituals and offerings, and you might see canang sari (flower baskets) or small statues, creating a nice cultural moment.
What to bring
Towel and Swimwear – you will likely stand under the waterfall so make sure you are dressed correctly. Also you have the chance to swim (shallow) in the pool around the waterfall.
Dry Bag – Since you are likely getting wet and at the bottom of the waterfall you don’t have a lot of dry spots, its smart to bring a dry bag to put all your stuff in.
Camera – Yes this is essential as you will likely want to have a hard copy of this amazing experience, so bring a good smart phone or your camera.
Water shoes – This is not essential, but with all the rocks and some of them being slippery, especially during the wet season its smart to have sturdy or water shoes.
Sun screen / protective clothes – Especially when you come during the peak hours and season, make sure you can protect yourself from the balinese sun. Wear a cap or bring an umbrella and make sure you put on some sun screen, as its goes bad really fast with the sun here.
Bug repellent – while mosquitoes aren’t always bad, I always recommend carrying it so they are enjoying your neighbors instead of bugging you.

How to get the perfect photo at Kanto Lampo
To get the perfect photo at Kanto Lampo Waterfall, follow these tips based on the site’s features:
Timing: Arrive early, around 6-8 AM, to avoid crowds and capture soft morning light that enhances the rock formations and water flow.
Angle: Stand on the smooth rocks near the base for a low-angle shot looking up at the cascading water, or climb a few steps for a wider view of the pool and surroundings.
Composition: Frame the waterfall with the surrounding greenery for contrast, and use the natural rock ledges as foreground interest to add depth.
Settings: Use a fast shutter speed (1/200s or higher) to freeze the water’s motion, or a slow shutter (1-2s with a tripod) for a silky effect—adjust ISO low (100-200) in daylight.
Gear: Bring a waterproof phone case or camera bag, and consider a tripod for stability on uneven terrain; a polarizing filter can reduce glare on wet surfaces.
Safety: Watch for slippery rocks, and avoid risky poses—stick to stable spots I found safe near the pool edge.
Editing: Boost contrast and saturation slightly to make the greens and water pop, but keep it natural.
Hire a pro: There are local photographers at the waterfall, so if your not into photography or are alone, this is a perfect way for you.
With these steps, you’ll capture Kanto Lampo’s beauty perfectly!

About a 30 minute ride from the waterfall, the Ubud Monkey Forest is a must-visit. With monkeys, a beautiful jungle and ancient temples like Pura Dalem Agung, making it a great spot to enjoy. Make sure you keep your belongings secure as those monkeys can be cheeky!
Also a 30-minute drive away but then to the north, the Tegallalang Rice Terraces offer breathtaking rice fields with iconic swing experiences. These UNESCO-recognized terraces are truly a magical experience, with the subak irrigation system adding a cultural layer worth appreciating.
Back to the center, the Ubud Art Market, is an active hub for shopping. I picked up unique wood carvings and textiles there the other day, enjoying the lively bargaining atmosphere and local craftsmanship.
