Singapore–Malaysia Coach Update: Four Operators Lose Licences
The Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) in Malaysia recently cancelled the licences of four Singapore-based tour bus operators — Luxury Coach, Cityline Travel, WTS Travel, and Leo City Coach — following an investigation into cross-border operations.
The announcement, made on 29 April and 2 May 2025, stated that these companies were running express bus services and selling online tickets, even though their license only allowed tour programs.
Under Malaysian law, foreign (Singapore-registered) operators are not permitted to run regular express coach services within Malaysia or sell point-to-point tickets online. Instead, they can only operate tour buses that start and end in Singapore as part of a round-trip package.
If you’re planning to travel from Singapore to destinations like Malacca, Kuala Lumpur, or Genting Highlands, make sure the company you book with holds a valid Malaysian express bus license.

707 Inc and KKKL Express are the ones that have the best reviews and are decently priced. I unfortunately have no experience with these, as I had taken 2 of the operators of which the license has been revoked, not being a tour agency but only a shuttle service.
How Long Is the Bus Ride from Singapore to Melaka?
The bus journey from Singapore to Melaka typically takes between 3.5 and 5 hours, but the actual travel time depends on several factors. On a normal weekday (when not traveling in rush times), you can take approximately 4 hours for the trip, which is the time the trip lasted for us.
One of the biggest variables is the border crossing at Woodlands and Johor Bahru. On a weekday morning, you might clear immigration in 30 minutes, but during weekends or public holidays, it can take over an hour due to long queues. We will discuss border preparation in more detail later in this blog.
Traffic conditions also play a huge role, as Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons are the busiest times, especially with locals traveling between Singapore and Malaysia.

What to expect during the trip
On the morning of your departure, you’ll receive a WhatsApp notification from the bus operator when booking through our trusted partner. This includes your departure time, seat number, expected time of arrival, and other important details, so you don’t have to worry about anything and have a direct contact.
During the journey, there will be a midway toilet break, giving you a chance to stretch your legs and grab a quick snack. The bus staff usually provides an estimated arrival time, helping you plan your onward travel in Melaka. Oftentimes this is at Ayer Keroh where there are multiple restaurants and a public toilet.

Buses to Melaka can fill up fast, especially on weekends and public holidays. It’s best to book your ticket ahead of time so you are sure you will secure your seat, especially when traveling on the weekend or late afternoon.
2. Arrive Early at the Departure Point
Most buses from Singapore to Melaka depart from locations like Golden Mile Tower, Queen Street Terminal, or Boon Lay. Arriving 20-30 minutes early ensures you have enough time to check in, find your bus, and settle in comfortably.
You’ll likely also receive a WhatsApp notification from the bus company on the morning of your trip, depending on where you book, with the required information.
3. Pack Smart & prepare for the bus trip

- Cash & Cards—While card payments are common, some spots in Melaka still prefer cash (Malaysian Ringgit—MYR), so it’s good to have some on hand.
- Comfort Items—Bring a travel pillow, a light jacket & pants, and headphones to make the trip more enjoyable.
- Batteries Charged—Make sure your phone and or laptop battery is charged. Bring a battery charger as well; we always have 2 with us.
- Get a book or prep some movie/series—either bring a book or prepare some series on Netflix for example so you won’t have to use to much data and won’t be bored during the trip
- Snacks & Water—There will be a midway toilet break, but food options can be limited, so packing some snacks is a good idea.
- What to Expect at the Border Crossing
As your bus approaches the Singapore border, you’ll need to hop off and walk through immigration. But don’t worry, it’s a quick and straightforward process. Your bus will be waiting for you on the other side, so there’s no stress about getting left behind. Just look for the bus number, which is clearly printed on your ticket and displayed on the bus itself.
A few miles later, you’ll reach the Malaysian border at Johor Bahru, where you’ll grab your bag and go through customs. You follow the same routine: scan your passport, receive a stamp, and your good to go.
Important: When disembarking at both the Singapore and Malaysia checkpoints, make sure to carry your luggage through customs, as it won’t stay on the bus during immigration checks.
If you’re traveling at a busy time, there is a good chance there will be a queue, but the process is smooth and efficient.
