Seseh Beach: A Hidden Gem Right Above Canggu
Bali is always changing, and that’s part of what makes it so exciting. With the main beach areas like Seminyak, Kuta or Canggu being crowded, I am always looking for hidden spots close by. Just 15 minutes north of Canggu the is a quiet coastal village Seseh, which is quickly gaining a lot of interest. After spending multiple times here myself, it’s easy to see why.
As bali is my second home and I love coming to this area, I would love to share my experience with you about the Seseh Beach area, packed with insights on things to do, handy tips and great places to stay to plan your own visit. I’ll talk about beautiful rice fields that take your breath away, Seseh Beach Villas that make you feel pampered like a king, and how to explore this quiet Bali treasure with ease.
Come along to discover why Seseh Beach is a must-visit hidden gem on the west side of Bali, written by a local.

Seseh Beach Location & Parking
Here is the map with the directions to the beach. If you don’t have a scooter yet, make sure to rent one. I always use Bikago, as they have the best services and reliability in Bali.
The google pin leads directly to the beach and parking can often happen directly on the beach, even though there is a ¨no parking¨ sign. When its crowded, you can park your bike or car on the road or an assigned location. There will be parking officers to guide you.
Normally its free.
@The Beach
On the beach you can find see that next to the beautiful soft black sand you can freely walk to either side and the beach has plenty of room for everyone. When walking to the right, you end up at a platform where you can see the see collide with the land, offering some great shots (as seen below)

When you walk to the left you come to Munggu Beach and can stroll along a bit further as well. There are various things to see and enjoy, next to the beauty of the ocean coming onto the black sand.

@The main parking area, you will find a normal beach club with some decent comfortable seating. Don’t expect anything fancy here, but it will serve its purpose if you want to have a drink or a small bite while enjoying the area or after a stroll on the beach. There is also a grass area, if you don’t like the sand in between your toes.
Seseh Beach Villas – An Unforgettable Stay
Seseh Beach is most renowned for its black sand, its quietness away from the buzz and ofcourse the incredible Seseh Beach Villa’s. Unique luxury in Bali, with 10 or 11 bedrooms the villa’s offer a luxurious and private beachfront escape, perfect for unforgettable celebrations and gatherings.
If you have the ability to completely pamper yourself and your family or have an upcoming event, this might be the ideal location for you. With beautiful tropical gardens, spacious modern villas, and outstanding personal service with a villa manager, private chef, assistant cook, butlers, security, gardeners, and maintenance team, you will have the ultimate balinese holiday.

Luxury 9.9/10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
These villa’s will cost around $2500 to $3000 USD a night with a minimum of 4 nights, but because of the size you can get in with multiple families and its perfect for events. I found this website offering the best deals. Make sure to book in advance, as they are often sold out ahead of time.
Activities to do in and around Seseh Beach
Seseh Beach, with its serene and unspoiled setting, offers a variety of activities that cater to relaxation, adventure, and cultural exploration. Here are some notable options based on current insights:
Surfing:
Seseh is a favored spot for intermediate to advanced surfers due to its consistent, powerful waves, especially during the dry season (May–September). Local surf schools and rental shops provide lessons and boards. Beginners should exercise caution due to strong currents, and its smart to check with locals for safe conditions.
Sunset Walks and Photography:
The black sand beach and dramatic tide pools at low tide make for stunning sunset views and photo opportunities. The unobstructed horizon offers a perfect backdrop, especially with the nearby Temple Luhur Griya Sakti adding a cultural silhouette or the main statues as showed here in below picture, which showcase a ritual offering.

Rice Field Exploration:
The Rice Fields around Seseh Beach fall under the “Green Belt” protected area. You wilI enjoy taking some time to discover the area around the beach and take in the beauty of Bali in its raw form. The easiest way to get around is by scooter, i always use Bikago.

Udara Bali Yoga and Spa Center, located just a short drive from Seseh, is a complete health destination. They provide yoga sessions, luxury spa treatments with ocean views, set in a bamboo and nature rich architecture. Also there are retreats, healing sessions, courses and so much more.

Cultural Immersion:
Visit Temple Luhur Griya Sakti to witness or respectfully observe Balinese Hindu rituals. This is especially the case during the Melasti festival (typically in March, e.g., March 29, 2025, for Nyepi). Engage with villagers for insights into local customs, but always ask permission before photographing ceremonies.

Tanah Lot – A True Balinese Iconic Temple
Tanah Lot is one of Bali’s most iconic and photographed temples, dramatically perched on a rock formation in the sea. What makes it special:
- 🌅 Unbeatable sunsets with waves crashing around the temple
- 🛕 Spiritual significance as a sacred sea temple dedicated to the sea god, Dewa Baruna
- 🌊 Unique location that becomes an island at high tide
- 🐍 Holy snake cave said to guard the temple from evil spirits
- 🧒 Family-friendly with markets, gardens, and cultural shows nearby

It’s not just a temple – it’s an unforgettable Balinese cultural and natural experience and i always enjoy coming here and being in this peaceful and beautiful environment.
As a Family at Seseh Beach
Beach time: The calm, black-sand shores are ideal for running around on the beach, building sandcastles, or just unwinding with your family. Be sure to watch tide pools at low tide.
There are some dogs as well your kids can play with.
Local village experiences: Join temple processions or village ceremonies. Exploring nearby rice‑field is also doable with a family as its just walking distance.
Tanah Lot visit: A short drive away, this temple on a rock at low tide is perfect for a family sunset trip.
Beachside Relaxation:
Though swimming is discouraged due to strong currents, lounging on the black sand beach or picnicking with a view of the Indian Ocean is a relaxing option. Bring a mat and enjoy the tranquility, especially during early mornings or late afternoons. You will see the flags on the beach warning you wether you can swim or not. If in doubt, you can always ask a local. Better be safe than sorry.
The sand is soft and often nice and cold, so its a perfect place to unwind and take some time to gather your thoughts or read a book. Do some racket game with the kids or play with a ball. As the sand is flat its perfect to run around at. There are some friendly dogs in the area as well who are always looking to make friends.

Pantai Munggu – Munggu Beach
While I was enjoying the relaxing atmosphere of Seseh Beach, I decided to take a quick 2-minute walk to its neighbor, Pantai Munggu. And I’m so glad I did! The stunning sunset views there perfectly echoed Seseh’s charm.
I loved watching the surfing enthusiasts tackle Munggu’s consistent, sizable waves. And the calm shoreline is perfect for my relaxing walk and a chat with some friendly locals. With volleyball games, kite flying, and a laid-back atmosphere, Munggu added a lively yet tranquil contrast to my Seseh experience. Together, these two beaches, so close in Mengwi, Badung Regency, made my coastal journey truly special!
Accomodations in and around Seseh Beach
When planning your stay at Seseh Beach, you’ll find a delightful mix of luxurious retreats and authentic accommodations that fit to every traveler’s taste. Seseh Beach Villas stand out from the rest in luxury, but there are much more options to choose from in this beautiful area of Bali.
For those seeking a more intimate stay, boutique options like Dune Bali offer a stylish yet cozy escape with authentic Balinese touches. They are blending modern comfort with local charm.

Seasons and Weather
Seseh Beach has that perfect tropical climate that makes you want to stay forever. During the dry season (April to October), I found the sunny days and warm temps around 27°C to 28°C- ideal for swimming, surfing, and just soaking up the laid-back beach vibes.
If you’re visiting during the wet season (November to March), expect short but heavy downpours (especially in January), so I’d recommend packing light, quick-dry clothes and embracing the slower, moodier side of Bali.
The ocean stays warm all year, between 27°C and 29°C, which means it’s always tempting to dive in. Just be cautious of stronger currents and the occasional jellyfish, especially during the rainy months. And don’t miss those Seseh sunsets—some of the most vibrant I’ve ever seen.

Conclusion – Seseh Beach
Seseh Beach truly surprised me. It’s one of those rare places in Bali that still feels untouched, where you can slow down, listen to the waves, and feel connected to the island’s quieter side. Whether you’re planning a special celebration, searching for a peaceful surf break, or just craving a break from the Canggu crowds, Seseh offers a beautiful balance of serenity and charm.
If you’ve made it this far in the blog—thank you! I hope my experience helps you plan your own memorable escape to this coastal gem. Trust me, Seseh is one of those places that quietly steals your heart. Don’t forget your travel insurance, i don’t go anywhere in the world without Safetywing.
