When we arrived, the sun was just beginning to set, it was around 5.30pm. The vendors were busy getting ready, the sizzle of woks and the aroma of grilling meats filling the air.

By 7 PM, Jalan Alor was buzzing with energy. The street was packed with locals and tourists combined, each in a great mood and eager to get their hands on some of the best street food Kuala Lumpur has to offer. The vendors, now in full swing, called out to passersby, showcasing their dishes.
This happened mostly from the restaurants. From skewers of satay sizzling over open flames to steaming bowls of noodle soup, every part offered new types of food and drinks.
One of the things I loved the most about Jalan Alor is how you can see it bring people together. Strangers sharing tables, chatting over a shared love of food, and families enjoying a meal together after a long day. We even had (or tried to have) a conversation with 2 Chinese woman, who didn’t speak any English.

Located just a stone’s throw away from the lively Bukit Bintang area, Jalan Alor is easy to find and has the perfect location in the heart of KL. And once you’re there, it’s impossible to resist its allure. Bukit Bintang is known for its shopping malls, high-end boutiques, and nightlife. It’s also very close to the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, which is an incredible experience on itself.
You will have the best view of the city on the observation deck of the famous Twin Towers.

We had an amazing apartment above at the incredible residential high rise, called Lion Suites. This recently new build building offers a rooftop infinity pool, sauna, gym and is close to the main shopping areas. For the price of around $100, you get a lot of amenities and luxury.
Later we went to the Kingston hotel, which we loved as well. Much simpler yet all the comfort, nice bed, warm shower and super fast internet.

Whether you visit Jalan Alor at 7 PM or 1 AM, you’ll find the place bustling with activity. The food stalls open early in the evening and continue serving well into the night depending on the day of the week. It’s not uncommon to see groups of friends enjoying a late-night meal or families savouring a feast after a long day exploring the city. The night air is filled with the aroma of char kway teow, the sight of skewered meats or squit grilling over open flames, and the sound of clinking glasses as people toast to good food and great company.

My first experience with Jalan Alor was a mixture of excitement and sensory overload. The moment I stepped onto the street, I was greeted by a colorful array of food stalls, each one more inviting than the last.
