What is Reiki Healing?
Reiki Healing is a Japanese energy healing practice developed by Mikao Usui in the 1920s, designed to promote balance and well-being. It involves channeling universal life force energy through a practitioner’s hands to harmonize the body’s energy centers, or chakras. It is completely safe and in my own experience can be very effective.
As a Reiki Healer Level 2, I’ve seen how this gentle, non-invasive technique fosters relaxation, emotional clarity, and physical ease. Reiki is not tied to any religion, making it accessible to all.
A Reiki session typically involve light touch or hovering hands with guiding energy releasing blockages. Its simplicity and versatility make it a powerful tool for mindfulness and holistic wellness, especially as it gains traction in the Western world. Whether you’re seeking stress relief or spiritual growth, Reiki offers a practical path to inner calm and spiritual growth.

The Benefits of Reiki Healing
Reiki Healing offers a wide range of physical, emotional, and spiritual benefits, making it a versatile tool for holistic wellness. I’ve witnessed personally it’s ability to reduce stress, promote deep relaxation, and improve sleep quality, helping clients feel refreshed.
Many report relief from chronic pain, headaches, or tension, as Reiki supports the body’s natural healing processes. Emotionally, it fosters balance, easing anxiety and depression while enhancing self-awareness and mindfulness. Clients often describe a sense of inner peace and clarity after sessions.
Reiki also complements other practices like yoga or meditation, amplifying their effects. For example, in my practice, I’ve seen clients use Reiki to manage emotional stress during life transitions, finding resilience and calm. While scientific evidence is limited, studies suggest Reiki may lower stress hormones and improve mood. Its non-invasive nature makes it safe for all, from those seeking spiritual growth to those needing practical stress and pain relief.
Where Reiki is Practiced: A Global and Western Rise
Reiki Healing, originating in Japan in the 1920s, is now practiced worldwide. Its rise in the Western world, especially in the United States, Canada, the UK, and Australia, reflects a growing embrace of holistic therapies. Reiki is found in yoga studios, wellness centers, spas, and even hospitals, where it supports patient recovery, reduces stress, and complements treatments like oncology care.
Distance Reiki sessions have also gained popularity, making it accessible globally. As a Reiki Healer Level 2, trained in Dharamshala India, under a Buddhist Reiki Master, I’ve experienced its profound impact firsthand. This spiritual hub, steeped in mindfulness, enriched my practice, blending traditional Reiki with Buddhist principles.
In the West, Reiki’s integration into integrative medicine and wellness spaces highlights its appeal for those seeking practical, non-invasive paths to energy balance and mindfulness.
Since i started working with Reiki, i have seen it pop up everywhere. Throughout the Netherlands, Germany and many other western countries as people see the effectiveness and importance of non invasive self healing practices and tackle the issues by the source.
How Reiki Works: A Practical Overview
Reiki Healing channels universal life force energy through a practitioner’s hands to restore balance in the body’s energy centers, or chakras. As a Reiki Healer Level 2, I use gentle touch or hovering hands to guide energy, helping clients release blockages and promote relaxation.
Sessions, lasting 30–45 minutes, involve specific hand positions over areas like the head, heart, abdomen and legs. Clients may feel warmth, tingling, or deep calm. In my practice, I incorporate Level 2 symbols, like Cho Ku Rei, to amplify energy flow, enhancing mindfulness and emotional clarity.

Reiki can be performed in-person or remotely, as energy transcends distance. No prior experience or belief is required, making it accessible to all. Its simplicity and non-invasive nature make Reiki a practical tool for stress and pain relief with holistic wellness.
Benefits To Become a Reiki Healer For Ourselves
Becoming a Reiki healer offers profound personal transformation, extending far beyond its healing effects on others. As a Reiki Healer Level 2, trained under a Buddhist Reiki Master, I’ve experienced how the practice nurtures inner peace, mindfulness, and healthier habits through dedicated daily routines.
While facilitating sessions for clients brings fulfillment, the true power for healers lies in consistent self-practice. A daily 30-minute routine, reciting the Reiki mantra, reflecting on the Five Reiki Principles and meditating, strengthens your connection to universal life force energy.

This disciplined practice amplifies Reiki’s effects on your own system, clearing energy blockages and fostering emotional balance. For example, my daily self-Reiki sessions, using Level 2 symbols like Cho Ku Rei, have deepened my mental clarity and resilience, especially during stressful times.
The Five Principles guide mindful living, reducing negative thought patterns and promoting gratitude. Over time, this routine transforms habits; improving sleep, reducing anxiety, and enhancing focus. Unlike client sessions, which offer moments of calm, daily practice builds a lasting foundation of holistic wellness, empowering healers to live with greater intention and inner harmony.
How to Become a Reiki Healer
Becoming a Reiki healer is an empowering path to channel universal life force energy for healing and mindfulness. As a Reiki Healer, I’ve found this journey transformative, blending spiritual depth with practical skills. Reiki training progresses through three levels:
- Level 1: Focuses on self-healing and hands-on healing for others, introducing basic energy techniques.
- Level 2: Enhances skills with distance healing and sacred symbols like Cho Ku Rei and Sei He Ki. My training in India deepened my ability to foster emotional and mental balance using these tools, combined with daily practice.
- Master Level: Prepares you to teach Reiki and perform attunements (opening energy path to student) and mastering advanced Reiki Healing techniques.
Choose a reputable teacher by verifying their credentials and lineage. Or go on a spiritual journey if you have the opportunity, to the heart of northern India or Japan like i did.

Level 1 is for beginners, requiring no prior experience. Training typically spans a weekend per level, with costs varying. More on that later.
Practicing Reiki Healing at Home: Tips for Beginners
Reiki Healing is a powerful practice for fostering mindfulness and energy flow, but it requires Reiki Level 1 certification before you can begin at home. As a Reiki Healer I’ve found daily self-Reiki transformative for personal wellness. After completing Level 1 training, which introduces energy channeling and basic hand positions, try these beginner tips:
- Set a Daily Routine: Dedicate 15–20 minutes daily. Start with a quiet space, recite the Five Reiki Principles (e.g., “Just for today, I will be grateful”), and set an intention for healing.
- Use Basic Hand Positions: Place hands on areas like your head, heart, or abdomen to channel energy. Focus on relaxation and warmth.
- Incorporate Meditation: Meditate for 5–10 minutes, visualizing energy flow to enhance mindfulness. I use this to deepen my calm.
- Combine with Journaling: Reflect on your emotions post-session to track progress.
- Explore Resources: Books like The Reiki Manual or online tutorials can guide your practice.
Level 1 certification, available through certified Reiki Masters, equips you with foundational skills. My daily routine has strengthened my inner peace and habits, and yours can too. Join Reiki communities for support and practice consistently to grow your skills.
My Personal Morning Reiki Healing Routine
My teachings came from a traditional way and i have been taught as if Usui himself was teaching me. I have received a set of daily practices, which i recite as part of my morning routine. It comes in 6 steps and is different for everyone. Each student is taught in a different way and practices vary depending on the teacher. The more you practice these routines, the stronger your healing power becomes. I have added it to my daily morning routine to continue to build my healing power.
This is my routine, as I was taught by my Reiki Master in India:
Step 1: Recite the Reiki Mantra with pyramid protection:
Form small pyramids with the left middle finger slightly hovering over the right wrist, envisioning white light and moving in a clockwise manner. Then hold hands together and throw the pyramid protection over your head.
Then recite:
Thank you Reiki for being here (3x)
Thank you Usui and all Reiki Masters, Reiki Guard, Reiki Guide and Reiki Angels for being here.
Step 2: Recite the 5 principles of Reiki with hand positions on Chakra Points
Draw all 3 symbols in the main hand palm 1 by 1 and say each symbol mantra 3 times, then clap the main hand on the second hand. (So hand where signals have been written, claps on top of the other hand)
Step 3: Symbol Meditation
Meditate 1 by 1 Each Symbol coming from the universe and completely dissolves on to your crown chakra. Say the mantra of the each symbol 3 times when it dissolves.
Step 4: Recite the 5 principles of Reiki with hand positions on Chakra Points
The recite is a combination of hand placements and reciting.

While putting the hands in the correct positions, you visualize white/violet light coming in from the universe to your crown chakra. From there it moves to the heart and then palms of each hand, bringing energy to the Chakra Points mentioned. Then recite the Principle that matches the hand positions in above way. Hold each position for 2-3 minutes if possible. After reciting the principle, give it some good thought, why saying this and compare it to your vision of the world.
Step 5: Gassho Meditation + Extra
Close hands together with fingers against each other facing upwards, hand close to heart and focus during the meditation on the 2 middle fingers and try to keep all the thoughts out. Keep the focus on the 2 middle fingers and envision white light coming from the crown to the heart to the hands and offer healing. If focusing is difficult, focus on the breath and breath through the nose and under belly.
Step 6: Pyramid protection & Reiki Mantra
End the same as you begin with the protection and Reiki Mantra.

Reiki Healing and Mindfulness: A Perfect Pair
Reiki Healing and mindfulness are a powerful duo, harmonizing energy flow with present-moment awareness. I’ve found that Reiki deepens mindfulness by guiding energy to clear mental and emotional blockages. During sessions, the gentle channeling of universal life force energy fosters a state of calm, anchoring you in the present. For example, in my practice, using the Sei He Ki symbol during self-Reiki helps me release stress and sharpen focus, enhancing my meditation.
To combine them, try a 10-minute self-Reiki session (after Level 1 certification) followed by a grounding meditation, focusing on your breath. Recite the Five Reiki Principles, like “Just for today, I will not anger,” to cultivate mindful intentions. This synergy appeals to Western audiences seeking practical stress relief tools, as Reiki’s calming energy amplifies mindfulness practices.
Regular sessions, even brief ones, promote mental clarity, emotional balance, and resilience, making this pairing a cornerstone of holistic wellness.
Addressing Common Questions and Myths
Reiki Healing often sparks curiosity and misconceptions. A common myth is that Reiki is a religion, well it’s not. It’s a non-invasive energy practice open to all, regardless of beliefs.
Another misconception is that Reiki requires psychic abilities; in reality, anyone trained in Level 1 can channel energy effectively. Some skeptics question its legitimacy due to limited scientific evidence, but studies suggest Reiki can reduce stress and improve mood, complementing medical treatments and offer pain relief. It’s not a cure-all but a supportive tool for holistic wellness.
Concerns about cultural appropriation are also addressed by respecting Reiki’s Japanese roots while adapting it globally. Safe and gentle, Reiki poses no risks and integrates well with therapies like yoga or meditation. Clearing these myths helps beginners approach Reiki with confidence, embracing its practical benefits for mindfulness, self healing and energy balance.
Its dangerous! Uhm no its completely harmless and only works positive for body and mind, both for the healer and the patient.
What is the cost of becoming a Reiki Healer?
This is an important aspect as well. I am not a Reiki master yet (level 3), but likely will become in the near future as i see a tremendous change in my energy levels and mindfulness. The costs of becoming a Reiki Healer vary deeply, depending on the location, Reiki master and wether you do it online or offline.
I think I had the best of all and found a truly magnificent Reiki Master in Dharamshala India, who trained me to become a healer myself in 6 days. Covering Reiki Healer Level 1 and 2.
Cost for me was $250 dollars for private lessons, and as far as i have seen, its one of the most affordable courses available.
Being here in the heart of northern india, Dhamarshala, also known as Little Tibet and home of the Dalai Lama it has truly been an incredible experience. There are multiple teachers here, but i went to Tibet Power Healing who offers a range of healing techniques and courses.

If you don’t have this opportunity, you can practice it also on other parts of the world like Japan, Bali and other Indonesian Islands, Australia and in most countries with prices varying between 300 to 700 dollars per certificate. Some come with retreats, food etc but there is really no need for that.
